Course Contents

The course includes scenario-based simulations mirroring real-world crisis incidents. These hands-on exercises provide a realistic environment, allowing participants to hone their decision-making skills in situations fraught with serious risks.

Crisis incidents may involve more time critical decision making and are demanding and complex scenarios. This workshop will give delegates a basic understanding of the issues they are likely to face, the decision-making structure required and the procedures to be followed.

The course is scenario-led and will be interactive, combining formal presentations, audio-visual feeds with live role plays and underpinned by our team’s exceptional insight and understanding of supporting those leading such crises. This will enable you to practice lessons learned and gain an understanding of these complicated incidents that have a significant business impact.

Decision Making Model

Having a template and reference to use throughout your decision making will assist you to justify all decisions with a sound rationale. We will introduce to you a tried and tested model that will enable you to make sound decisions with confidence.

Barriers and influences when decision making

The instructors will share with you the Influences on decision makers: personal, organisational and external and share how to minimise these barriers to effective decision making.

Recording and defending decisions

It is advised to document your thinking and justifications when making important decisions. Ensuring your decisions are proportionate and that you are accountable for them is key. By use of scenario feeds you will explore this process.

Analysis of the available information

A proper examination of the source and information will inform your risk assessment. The decision maker should be able to demonstrate that they did all that was reasonably possible to carry out this process for the decision to stand up to scrutiny. The instructor will demonstrate how this is done.

Risk assessment

A proper risk assessment recognises the context, ambiguity and uncertainty and examines the threat and likelihood of harm to various entities. By doing so we ensure any mitigation is sufficient, appropriate and defendable. You will be given the opportunity to apply a globally used methodology in given scenarios.

Setting and communicating your strategy

What you are trying to achieve in any given incident should be outlined in a list of objectives. This will keep the team on track and ensure your decisions address what are the priorities. Examples of working strategies will be shown and discussed.


The decision has been made and tasks are delegated. We will share with you what command protocols are documented (the who does what and when) and what should be communicated.
